Client Case Study

VitalCare Family Practice

VitalCare Family Practice is a Richmond-based medical practice committed to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care that addresses both physical and mental health needs. Like many primary care practices, VitalCare Family Practice recognized that limited access to behavioral health services was creating barriers for patients who needed timely support.

To close this gap and strengthen whole-person care, VitalCare Family Practice partnered with Allied Behavioral Health Integration to embed behavioral health services directly into our practice. Through this collaboration, VitalCare Family Practice has expanded access to mental health care, improved care coordination and enhanced the overall patient experience while also easing the burden on providers.

Before partnering with Allied BHI, VitalCare Family Practice faced significant limitations in access to behavioral health services. Patients who needed therapy often experienced long wait times or were unable to secure appointments with outside therapists. This gap in care made it difficult to address mental and behavioral health needs promptly, which in turn affected patients managing chronic conditions and medication adherence. VitalCare Family Practice sought a solution that would allow our patients to receive timely, coordinated behavioral health support directly within their primary care setting.

Allied BHI’s behavioral health specialists became an active, integrated part of the VitalCare Family Practice care team. They work closely with providers to support patients with medication adherence, build strong therapeutic relationships and reinforce treatment plans. This collaboration has helped improve follow-through with care recommendations and strengthened trust between patients and the care team, particularly for those managing chronic illnesses alongside mental health concerns.

Providers observed meaningful clinical improvements in patient engagement, adherence to treatment and continuity of care. Our patients were more likely to stay connected to therapy, communicate openly about mental health concerns and participate in managing both behavioral and physical health conditions.

Yes. Having behavioral health services embedded in the practice reduced the workload on primary care providers, who no longer had to manage complex behavioral health needs alone or spend time coordinating external referrals. VitalCare Family Practice providers could rely on Allied BHI behavioral health specialists to support patients, follow up between visits and address psychosocial barriers to care, allowing clinicians to focus more fully on medical treatment.

The collaborative care model has significantly expanded access to mental health services for VitalCare Family Practice patients. Instead of navigating external systems, patients can receive behavioral health support directly within primary care. This integration strengthens communication among providers, improves care coordination and ensures mental health is treated as a core part of overall wellness.

Patient feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Patients appreciate the convenience and comfort of receiving therapy in the same place they receive medical care. This reduces stigma, simplifies scheduling and increases willingness to engage in mental health treatment. Many patients report feeling more supported and understood by having behavioral health services readily available.

The professionalism and compassion of Allied BHI’s behavioral health specialists stand out as a major strength. Their kindness, empathy and patient-centered approach help build trust quickly and encourage patients to stay engaged in care. This human-centered approach enhances both clinical effectiveness and patient satisfaction.

VitalCare Family Practice expects the partnership to continue delivering high-quality behavioral health services and further strengthening integrated care. As patient demand for mental health support continues to grow, Allied BHI is positioned to remain a key partner in meeting those needs within the primary care setting.
